World We Dare to Imagine Part 1

I think there are a lot of things we can do to make the world a better place, but I would focus on building connections between people. The quote talks about being a good global citizen and I think in order to be a good global citizen one must listen to the perspectives and viewpoints of others. To encourage this empathetic thinking I would put people into groups with others from all around the world. The groups would have members that varied in age (not minors), location, socioeconomic status, etc. Essentially just a completely random group of people. This group would then get to know each other by sharing their language, food, hobbies and maybe even getting to visit different countries that the group members are from. Once the members got acquainted I would switch up the groups again allowing people to be exposed to even more perspectives and backgrounds. To facilitate positive environments I would ban anyone who was aggressive, or spoke negatively towards others in the group. Although there may be easier strategies out there, I think this would be a fun way for people to be exposed to different cultures and ways of life. It may be harder for people to judge or make assumptions when they actually talk with people from different backgrounds. I think it is very easy for us to get stuck in our own world and forget how global our society truly is.

  1. Hey Chloe! I think this sounds like a great way to expose people to different perspectives. Most importantly, it is feasible and I can see this idea being implemented on both a small scale (i.e. universities and local communities) and worldwide. Your idea reminds me a lot about a YouTube series called "Middle Ground", where people with opposing beliefs meet to discuss their differences.

One suggestion I have is for you is to think about how your program can target those who are less open to different perspectives. It might be hard to convince closed-minded people to engage in open dialogue when they are arguably the ones you are trying to target. What are some ways you could incentivize them to join? One approach could be framing the program in a way that appeals to their interests or values.

  2. Your plan to have everyone come together in completely random groups sounds like a found and interesting way of knocking down borders and hatred people harbor against others. Understanding everyone's struggles and what they go through is the best way people bond.

One thought that I have is what would be the after effects of this program look like? I think that if their was a way that these people could remain in touch after, it would help deepen their understanding of each other.

  3. Hi Chloe, I think your idea of bringing random groups together seems like a good way to encourage mixing of cultures and ideas. Whenever I have interacted with people from completely different backgrounds as me, we always find at least one thing to connect on. I feel like this concept being globalized would help show the world that random people can get along together, they just need the opportunity to.

  4. Hi Chloe! I really like your idea of bringing together people in groups to expose one another to differences. I feel like in doing this, people will be able to see that although we are each unique and come from different backgrounds, we still have so many similarities and ways that we are alike. The one thing that comes to me is how it would be a little difficult to get participation at first.
