Who You Are Matters
Where you come from?
Denver, Colorado.
Where you're going?
I want to be a veterinarian in the future, and just finished applying to vet school. Although I have worked with a lot of species I want to be a small animal vet and work with cats and dogs.
How you plan to get there?
I work at veterinary clinics and am taking prerequisite courses.

How are you LIKE your parents?
My parents and I are both very driven and hardworking. We also like trying new things and being outdoors.
How are you UNLIKE your parents?
Although I am very hardworking, I also like to have fun and go out with my friends. My parents are more focused on work and makes less room in their lives for social activities.
Have you developed your own expectations for yourself?
I have wanted to be a veterinarian for a long time and am willing to work very hard to achieve this goal. My passion for helping animals is what drives me to pursue my passion.
Who serves as a model for you?
Dr. Edwards is one of the veterinarians that I work with. Not only is she good at her job, but she also treats all of the clients and their pets with respect. She always works to provide the best care at the lowest cost and is always willing to help other doctors or vet techs when they need help.
What wild animal do you feel a special connection with?
I have a special connection with polar bears. When I was in high school I worked at the Denver Zoo and this sparked my passion for animal conservation and care. Polar bears are amazing animals that are playful and intelligent. Although we always worked to ensure these bears had the best care and were always given enrichment, this experience also made me realize that animals like polar bears deserve to be in the wild. These creatures are so complex and need more stimulation and space than human care can provide. However, their natural habitats are disappearing. I became more interested in animal conservation and how we can work to save habitats, so animals can safely live in the wild.

Describe a significant childhood encounter with a tree or plant.
One time when I was little I went camping with my friend Adeline. We came across a cool stick and decided we wanted to use it as our walking stick. We went to our dads and asked them if they could cut it down the middle so we could each have half of the stick. They eventually cut it and we carried around the sticks for the rest of the camping trip and even wrote a song about them.
